IGM Web Presence Goes Live

We’ve been working most of the summer to put together the web presence for the department, and we’re finally up and rolling. For the design of the site, we’ve had the pleasure of working with Darkwind Media, a local firm that was founded by several former students with degrees in New Media and Game Design & Development.

It’s been a treat to work with the team at Darkwind both from a professional point of view, and as a source of pride for the faculty of the IGM department. We could not have asked for a more helpful, response-oriented team. They were incredibly helpful in working with us on a wide range of issues – and we aren’t done yet. While the site is live we have several advanced features and capabilities that are still in development, so please keep watching as our web presence continues to grow and evolve!

In addition to the design and dynamic backend for the site, we’ve also moved to a new backend model for the site based in part on our work with Microsoft and the “Skynet” server… the backend for this site is build around a content management approach that we are exploring with respect to serving a game portal both to the RIT community and the world at large. The work that forms the core of our new web presence represents a first step as we continue to explore rich media approaches to content delivery and interaction on the Internet.

Thank you to all of the faculty and staff that have helped to make this launch a reality, including the advising staff in the School of Informatics, B. Johnson from the IGM Chair’s office, E. Huyer and the rest of the technical staff both within IGM and the School for their helpful advice and hard work, the GCCIS administration team for their help and support in working to obtain the necessary resources for the “Skynet” cluster, and the IGM faculty for their help and advice with respect to various issues.

The IGM web presence, like almost everything in and around the IGM department, is a team effort, and we welcome you to our new digital home. For more information about the IGM site, be sure to see the ‘about this site’ area.
